(57) Abstract : A process for preparing aerosol base mosquitocidal and housefly cidal formation from herbal
extracts.
The natural and synthetic insecticides available in the market are less used for the control of mosquitoes and housefly.
Since their side effects and costs. The four plants used for insecticide preparation are ocimum tenuiflorum linn.,
Azadirachta indica juss., Ocimum basilicum Linn., Eucalyptus glubolus juss have been used in powdered form.
Individually tested for bio efficacy against Anopheles stephensi, culex-quinquefasiatus mosquitoes and musca
domestica, housefly study. But have not given effective activity. The combine four plants powder at 400mgs has given
100% mortality against the above said mosquitoes. This invention has provoked for further durable, effective, and safe
insecticide prepartion and to obtained it the extraction method is used.
The extracts of four different plants was obtained by using petroleum ether as extracting solvent, refluction in soxhlet at
the temperture 50˚ C -60˚ C for 8.0hours. After complete evaporating of petroleum ether from the extract. 5% extract test
solution was prepared using aerosol as adissolving solvent for spray, the synergistic effect of this formulation was tested
for bio-effcacy study against Anopheles stephensi, culex-quinquefasiatus mosquitoes and Musca domestica housefly.
This formulation gives 91%, 92% and 87% mortalities and KT50 (minutes) 12.91, 15.85 and 21.91 against Anopheles
stephensi, Culex-quinquefasiatus mosquitoes and Musca domestica housefly respectively. Generally herbal extract
formulations KT50 values are found in between 22-25min-against mosquitoes while against housefly it is ranged between
25-28min. This is a substitute formulation of herbal origin in aerosol solvent to a existing less active plant product
formulations and harmful synthetic formulations.
