Ordinance,2004 : NO
(57) Abstract : The inventive methods and systems for digital data transmission using a communication
path which comprises analog communication lines and a pulse-code modulation channel (PCM). Said
method and systems make it possible to increase a data transmission rate through the entire communication
path in such a way that it is equal to the data transmission rate of the PCM channel irrespective of the
quality of used analog communication lines. The spectrum of a signal transmitted by an analog transmission
line is selected such that the data transmission rate of said transmission line is equal to the data transmission
rate of the PCM channel, and the number of data quantisation levels transmitted by the analog transmission
line is as low as possible for said analog communication line. In order to convert an analog signal into an
PCM channel signal, the analog-signal frequency is decreased proportionally the ratio between the number
of data quantisation levels transmitted by a PCM channel and the number of data quantisation levels
transmitted by the analog communication line.
