IN MEMORIAM DR.
humorral teli mosolya, amellyel lezárta magában a másoknak esetleg életre
más díj mellett – 2001-ben, a „párhuzamos kultúráért” életm díjat!).
Úgy ment el, ahogy élt. Csendesen. Kerülve a felt nést. Emléke bennünk örökké
él!
At 87 years of age, Dr. László Timaffy quietly passed away.
Was he a teacher? Or a woodcutter, or a cantor, or an ethnographer… Actually,
he always grabbed the opportunities the human-manipulated „community”
offered to him. Sometimes, he was able to make decisions about his own fate
and desires, and he survived them with essential wit. But primarily, he was
human, who was interested in the past, in the intellectual and physical heritage
of humans. He never talked about the difficulties he received as „gifts” from
his fellow humans, his legendary smile that was full of grotesque humor, always rose above those. With that smile he blocked out the miseries,
the distressing, aggressive and disabling episodes, that might have lasted for a lifetime for other people.
Today his legacy cannot yet be evaluated; local findings and imprints of the gradually disappearing traditional folk culture of the past century.
Irreplaceable, today inaccessible findings. His painstaking and expert work preserved them for us. He was the local apostle of he „parallel” (not
government controlled) culture. (So it is not a coincidence that – among others – in 2001 he received the life achievement award for „parallel
culture”).
He departed this life the same way as he had lived it. Quietly. Without a stir. His memory will be with us forever.
IN MEMORIAM BIG LUCKY CARTER (1920–2002)
gondolat. Velünk volt, együtt voltunk, jó volt együtt, élveztük, amit nékünk
Isten megadott. Élvezte a jó bort, a pálinkát és kíváncsian, érdeklõdve
hallgatta, nézte más kultúrák produktumait, na és nézegette a
szép lányokat. Mi kell több! Tavaly Kajárpécen a fesztivál „hivatalos”
osztott.
Szerencsések voltunk, hogy még élvezhettük hangját. Emlékét nem
csak lelkünk, hanem Tolnai Ottó, vajdasági költõ, szellemi védnökünk,
zs ritagunk verse is õrzi. Reméljük örökre!
„Old Lucky” – as everyone called him after some time - turned out to be the most original and most important character in the past two MEDIA-
WAVE Festival. He came to us from the shores of Mississippi; he was considered one of the last Mohicans of archaic blues. This singer/guitarist
was one of those few, who were able to authentically pass on the American black culture.
He was not a star; he did not want to be one. He was with us, we were together, and it was good to be together, we enjoyed what God gave
us. He liked fine wine, schnapps, and was interested in products of other cultures, and, well, he was checking out the beautiful girls. What more
one would need! Last year in Kajárpéc we entitled him the „official” grandpa of the festival, the event was celebrated by several prominent musicians.
But nonetheless, he was superior, a fine black prince, who looked at us smiling, watched our needless running around, and distributed truth
with his songs.
We were lucky to have enjoyed his voice. His memory will be preserved not only in our hearts, but also in the poem of Otto Tolnai, a poet from
Vojvodina, our intellectual patron and jury member. Forever, we hope!
