Chapter 6. Accessing databases<br />

This chapter provides information on accessing databases and using the<br />

information in Web pages. The following topics will be discussed:<br />

► Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) overview<br />

► Working with databases in Studio Site Developer<br />

Runtime database access will be discussed in Chapter 13, “Deploying<br />

applications” on page 455.<br />

Note: This chapter assumes that you have installed a database product. The<br />

example assumes that you have installed <strong>IBM</strong> DB2 on the Studio Site<br />

Developer system. Assuming that the development machine, the database<br />

server machine, and the application server machine are three separate<br />

physical machines, you will need the following:<br />

► Database server: Must have a database product installed<br />

► Development machine (with Studio Site Developer): Must have access to<br />

database drivers<br />

► <strong>Server</strong> machine (with Express <strong>Application</strong> <strong>Server</strong>): Must have access to<br />

database drivers<br />
