13.3.1 Server types
Table 13-1 lists the types of servers supported by Studio Site Developer.
Table 13-1 Summary of server types
Server type Use
WebSphere Version 5.0
Express server Express Application Server installed locally or
remotely.
Express test environment The Express Application Server internal to Studio
Site Developer.
Express server attach Used to attach to an application server and then
debug the Web objects running on it.
Other types
J2EE Publishing server Used for publishing static Web and J2EE projects to
a remote location or a J2EE application server
(assumes port 80). This just copies the application
to the specified directory. It does not update
httpd.conf, nor does it allow you to start or stop the
server. It is always “started.” There is no stop option.
Static Web publishing server Used for publishing Web projects to an HTTP server.
TCP/IP monitoring server Allows you to monitor TCP/IP activity between the
Web browser and application server (does not
publish or run applications).
We will focus on the Express server and Express test environment. For
information on the others, please refer to the help contents in Studio Site
Developer.
13.4 Using the Express test environment
The easiest way to get started with testing applications is to begin with the
WebSphere test environment. This should be the first place you deploy an
application during development and where you test at each development stage.
To use the test environment, you need to do the following:
1. Create a server and server configuration.
2. Publish the enterprise application to the server.
