5.1 HTML support in Studio Site Developer Building HTML pages is probably the most basic of all Web development activities. Studio Site Developer provides extensive support for working with HTML, including tool bars, wizards, content assist aids, validation and syntax checking, graphics tools, and other types of support you would expect from a mature Web development tool. 5.1.1 Using the Web perspective Figure 5-1 Web perspective The Web perspective is the primary perspective used to build Web project components. The default views have been selected and placed to facilitate working on HTML and JSP files. The Web perspective can be opened by selecting Window -> Open Perspective -> Web. 78 IBM WebSphere Application Server - Express V5.0.2 Developer Handbook
You can see the default layout of the Web perspective in Figure 5-1 on page 78. Project files in the Project Navigator view show a structured view of the application. Double-clicking a file in the navigator will open it in the editor area (center) using the Page Designer. The toolbar and drop-down options at the top give you easy access to tools and wizards designed to make building Web applications easy. The items in the toolbar change based on the active editor and resource. You can control the options you see to some extent by modifying the toolbar viewing options in the Toolbar drop-down. The default views in the Web perspective are designed and positioned for optimum efficiency. Note that the default layout for perspectives tends to change over time from one product release to another. This can be due to new views, usability feedback, or just the fact that developers have discovered a more convenient and popular way of doing things. In Studio Site Developer V5.1, the Web perspective has the following views in its default layout: ► Project Navigator ► Gallery ► Struts Explorer ► Attributes ► Styles ► Thumbnails ► Quick Edit ► Tasks ► Colors ► Servers ► Palette ► Snippets Other views may appear as you perform tasks. For example, the first time you test an application and use the Servers view, the Console view will appear. We will discuss a few of the default views briefly here, and in addition, a few other views that we find helpful in working with Web applications. For information about adding views and rearranging the views on your workspace, see 3.2.3, “Customizing perspectives” on page 52. The descriptions of all views can be found in the Studio help text.
