16.7 Using SSL with applications
Three things are required for the use of SSL with applications.
► The application must be coded to use SSL through the use of security taglibs
or other programming techniques (not covered in this publication).
► The server must be configured so SSL is supported on the ports the
application uses for SSL.
► A certificate must be obtained and stored for use by the server.
Configuring the server ports for SSL
The configuration of SSL for the server is done on the Ports tab of the Configure
Server Screen in Studio Site Developer.
To enable SSL:
1. Select the Sever perspective and open the server configuration.
2. Select the Ports tab.
3. Click Add next to the HTTP transport list in the Server Settings section.
Figure 16-18 HTTP Transport configuration
4. Enter the port number and select the Enable SSL check box.
5. Click OK.
This will add a new port to your server. If the Enable SSL check box is checked,
then this port will be used in a secure environment. Now the applications that are
running on this port will be accessible using SSL only.
Adding a certificate to your application server
In order to use SSL you will need to get a certificate. These can be obtained from
Certification authorities and service providers that provide security certificates.
