14.1 Debugging in the Web perspective 14.1.1 Page errors The Web perspective provides several tools to aid you in debugging your Web applications. Tools include: ► Project navigator view ► Tasks view ► Console view ► Editor marker bars ► Quick Fix tool Web servers generate error messages when they encounter unexpected conditions. If WebSphere Application Server - Express encounters an error in your application at runtime, it will display the appropriate error page in the Web browser. Two of the most common errors that you may encounter during your development are the 404 and 500 errors. 404 error The 404 error page is displayed when a page being requested is non-existent. This error could be the result of several problems: ► The requested page has been moved or is named incorrectly. ► The requesting page may be pointing to the incorrect URL for the requested page. 494 IBM WebSphere Application Server - Express V5.0.2 Developer Handbook
Figure 14-1 404 error page Error message To address the error, verify first that the page being requested is in the correct location and is named correctly and then verify that the link that is requesting the page is correct. For a 404 error, your best bet is to look at the Project navigator and Tasks views for answers. For more information about these views, see 14.1.3, “Tasks view” on page 497 and 14.1.2, “Project navigator view” on page 496. 500 error The 500 error page is displayed when an internal server error has occurred.
