Enabling security when installing
During the installation of the Agent Controller, you can choose to enable the
communications security protocol. By enabling the security, you ensure that
communication to the Agent Controller will be encrypted, and that all connections
will be forced to authenticate using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology. The
SSL security protocol ensures elements such as data encryption, authentication,
and authorization.
To enable the communications security protocol during the installation process,
follow these steps:
1. From the Agent Controller InstallShield Wizard, click Enable Security
(Recommended for Production Systems). Click the Next button.
2. The Secure User Access window opens. Enter the user names that should
be granted access to the Agent Controller. Click the Next button when
finished.
3. The Host List window opens. Choose the hosts that will be able to access the
Agent Controller. Click the Next button when finished.
After you have enabled (or disabled) the security, you can continue with the
installation process.
Note: Enabling the security is recommended. If, during the installation
process, you choose to disable the security, communication to the Agent
Controller will not be encrypted and access control will be limited to the
defined host list.
16.6.2 Importing a security certificate into the Workbench
Security certificates are used during the authentication process to provide secure
connections when using the Agent Controller. A security certificate is essentially
a digital statement that confirms the identity of an entity (such as a person or a
company). By using security certificates, you ensure that all connections using
the Agent Controller will be forced to authenticate using Secure Sockets Layer
(SSL) technology.
To import a security certificate into the Workbench, follow these steps:
1. From the Workbench, open the Preferences window by clicking the Windows
menu item, and then by clicking Preferences.
2. From the Preferences window, select Agent Controller from the left pane.
