► Based on the project in your workspace
Sometimes you don't want to commit your changes to everyone in the team
but would still like to version them. You may want to do this, for example, if
your changes are not yet stable, or if it will take a long time before you are
ready to commit them to the team. In this case, you may want to create a new
branch to commit your changes to.
Creating a new branch based on a project version
To create a new branch from an existing project version, do the following:
1. Open the CVS Repository Exploring perspective.
2. Find Branches in the CVS Repositories view, right-click, and select Add to
Branch List... from the context menu.
3. Enter the new branch name and click OK. The new tag is created and you are
ready to add a project to this new branch.
4. In the CVS Repositories view, select the project under the HEAD branch that
you want to split off into the new branch you just created. Select Tag with
Existing from the context menu.
5. Expand the versions folder and select the version. Click OK.
6. You can now expand the project under the new branch. The resources are
now there and should have the same revision levels you see in the original
version.
7. Highlight the new project under the branch and select Check Out As Project
from the context menu. Note that this will overwrite the copy that you have in
your workspace.
Creating a new branch from the workspace
The first step is to define a new branch in your workspace and associate the
project with it:
1. From the Project Navigator view, select the project you want to create a
branch for, and from the context menu select Team -> Branch.
2. Enter a new branch name (for example, DebugLoginBranch), select Start
working in the branch, and click OK.
The new branch exists in your workspace and you can continue working with the
project. Any commits you perform will be done to the new branch.
If you want multiple projects associated with this branch, simply repeat these
steps and enter the same branch name for each project.
