Póster - Labguistic: a web platform to design and run
speech perception experiments

Labguistic (labguistic.com) is an integrated into web interface multilingual tool
which allows to run online speech perception experiments. It presents different
interfaces which gives the possibility to the researcher (i.e. experimenter) to
fully customize his tests.
In the first two interfaces (Test and Parts interfaces), the experimenter redacts
the instructions for the participants to perform the experiment, and he defines
the number of parts (and their title) in the experiment (e.g. Part 1, Part 2). Then,
in the Question/Response interface, the experimenter states one or more
questions (e.g. which vowel do you perceive? What is your confidence
degree?), chooses the response type (e.g. binary response, scale of numbers,
text), and sets the response labels and format. The next step, in the Sound
interface, consists in selecting the sounds which will be played in each part of
the experiment, as well as defining their presentation type (e.g. visual and/or
oral) and order (randomized/fixed). Moreover, Labguistic allows the
experimenter to set, for each sound, customized properties (e.g.
words/pseudowords, syllable structure), which will be retrieved in the results
table (see below). Furthermore, the experimenter has the possibility to create a
biographic and linguistic questionnaire in the Formular interface, in order to get
some social and linguistic information about the participants (e.g. gender, age,
competence in L2). Once participants have performed the experiment, they
appear, as valid if they have entirely done the experiment, in the Participants
interface, in which the experimenter can examine their biographic and linguistic
profile (retrieved from the Formular interface), and select the participants who
fulfil prior requirements (e.g. bilingual Catalan/Spanish), before exporting the
results. In the Results interface, the experimenter can export the results of the
selected participants in CSV format with the possibility to generate one file per
participant or one file for entire set of participants. The CSV file contains the
biographic and linguistic information about the participants, and for each sound,
its name, the part in which it was presented, its properties (retrieved from the
Sound interface), its presentation number and the response to the question(s).
Labguistic presents thus the great advantage to provide in one CVS file all the
information needed to analyze the data in statistical softwares.
In sum, Lagbuistic is an experimental multilingual web platform designed to help
the researchers to create, customize and run their speech perception
experiments.
