How did your love for cinema start?
I fell in love with cinema at the age of 8.
Every Sunday afternoon at the parish recreation center of my
town, they showed a new movie: that was for me an unmissa-
ble appointment, just what I had been waiting for the entire
week. Since I was a child movies have given me company, hope
and, most of all, dreams. I turned these dreams into goals when,
soon after my high school graduation, I took a flight to the US to
make them come true.
From a little town in Italy to the chaotic Los Angeles.
Wasn’t it kind of a traumatic change? Was it difficult to
take the first steps in your career?
Yes, a bit, but not that much. After two weeks, I had already set-
tled in the new city, but that doesn’t mean it was all easy for me.
Thanks to many sacrifices and three degrees (Communication,
Cinema and Broadcasting) at the Santa Monica College, I was
granted two important scholarship that allowed me to gain en-
trance to the prestigious USC School of Cinema, which is run,
among the others, by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. The
first door had been opened, but it wasn’t enough for me. I wan-
ted to smash it… I wanted to shoot to fame.
Com’è nata la tua passione per il cinema?
Mi sono innamorato del cinema all’età di 8 anni.
Ogni domenica pomeriggio la sala parrocchiale del mio paese proiettava
un film nuovo: era per me un appuntamento imperdibile, non
aspettavo altro tutta la settimana.
Sin da piccolo il cinema mi ha dato compagnia, speranza e soprattutto
tanti sogni.
Sogni che si sono poi trasformati in obiettivi quando, dopo il diploma,
sono volato negli Stati Uniti per realizzarli.
Da un piccolo paesino italiano alla grande e caotica Los Angeles.
Non è stato un cambiamento traumatico? E’ stato difficile fare i primi
passi per intraprendere la tua carriera?
Un po’ sì, ma non troppo. Nel giro di due settimane sono riuscito ad
ambientarmi e adeguarmi alla nuova realtà, questo non vuol dire che
sia stato tutto facile per me. Dopo tanti sacrifici e tre lauree brevi,
Comunicazione, Cinema e Broadcasting, sono riuscito ad ottenere
due borse di studio che mi hanno consentito di essere ammesso alla
School of Cinema della University of Southern California, prestigiosissima
scuola di cinema amministrata tra gli altri da Steven Spielberg e
George Lucas. La prima porta era stata aperta, ma non mi bastava,
volevo sfondarla… dovevo sfondare nel mondo del cinema.
