“English… anywhere you like!”
With English Corner, an international language centre for the
study of English, Benedetta Manghi has created an innovative
business venture and an important centre for the learning of
one of the most important languages.
Drinking our English tea, we talk about English Corner.
Benedetta, how did you get the idea to create such an
innovative and atypical language centre?
I had a long working experience in important English schools,
where English was taught in class and there was little
possibility to vary the teaching systems. Filling up every lesson
with enough students at every time of the day was difficult,
along with those classes which would never be run because
there were too few of them. These problems were jeopardising
the pleasures of working! Thus, taking advantage of some
radical changes in my private life, I started to think of a new
project: I wanted to teach English, but I also wanted to use my
experience in order to offer a new and effective method.
What is the main strength of your project?
The main strength at English Corner is flexibility. Students have
tailored timetables and teaching plans. They have the
opportunity to follow courses in a lot of cities and places,
“English… anywhere you like!” Con il suo centro internazionale per
lo studio della lingua inglese, English Corner, Benedetta Manghi ha
creato un modello imprenditoriale e culturale innovativo, per apprendere
al meglio una delle lingue più diffuse al mondo. Davanti ad una
tazza di tè, rigorosamente inglese, chiacchieriamo di English Corner e
non solo.
Benedetta, da dove è nata l’idea di creare un centro linguistico atipico
nel panorama delle offerte di questo settore?
Venivo da una lunghissima esperienza in importanti scuole di inglese
dove i corsi erano quasi esclusivamente in aula e poche le possibilità
di variare il prodotto offerto: l’ansia di poter riempire le classi in tutti
gli orari, si univa a quella di sapere che molti corsi proposti non sarebbero
mai partiti perché troppo poche le iscrizioni. Il tutto a scapito del
piacere del proprio lavoro! E così, approfittando di cambiamenti radicali
nella mia vita personale, ho cominciato a pensare e mettere in
cantiere un prodotto diverso. Insegnare l’inglese sì, ma attingere ai numerosi
anni di vendita di corsi per poter dare le risposte più valide e
attuali alla clientela.
Il fattore principale per definire il suo progetto, quale può essere?
In English Corner la flessibilità è il fattore guida: orari e tipologie avanzate
di apprendimento sono ritagliati “su misura” per ogni singolo
cliente, che ha la possibilità di fare lezione in ogni luogo e città del
