Il forte The Fortress
Nonostante i numerosi
restauro. La fortezza è visitabile dal martedì alla
domenica grazie all’Associazione Amici del Forte di
Gavi, tel. 0143 643554.
First a castle, then a fort, then a fortress. Documents
show that the castle existed already in remote 973,
even though it has been hypothesized that its origins
actually date to pre-Roman times, when it was a
fortification. Even after numerous modifications
during the course of the centuries, the fortress still
preserves its fascination. It was used during both
world wars as a military prison, but in 1946 it was
given to the Superintendant of the Architectural and
Environmental Heritage of the Piedmont, which
restored it in 1978. The fortress can be visited from
Tuesday to Sunday thanks to the Associazione Amici
Prodotto in 11 comuni è DOCG
riconvertito le sue vigne all’agricoltura biologica e
oggi produce solo vino naturale.
From Cortese grapevines, comes Gavi, the best known
dry white wine of the Piedmont, a region that is
historically known for its white. It has been certified
DOCG since 1998, with 11 towns and villages as
geographical producers. Historic wine-makers, like La
Scolca and La Giustiniana, have been flanked in
recent years by other small producers, who are
bravely trying new paths. Stefano Bellotti of the
Cascina degli Ulivi has been making bio-dynamic
wines since 1984, and Massimiliana Spinola
converted all her vineyards six years ago and now
makes only organic wine.
