Un palcoscenico sotto le stelle e un sipario color
acqua marina possono suscitare qualche diffidenza.
Di fronte a molti cartelloni estivi en plein
air, infatti qualcuno pensa che, approfittando della scenografia
naturale , gli organizzatori puntino soprattutto
sulla cornice e scelgano gli spettacoli come se si trattasse
soltanto di un accessorio alle attrattive turistiche. Gli
scettici hanno ottime opportunità di cambiare idea in Liguria.
Gli sfondi sui quali ogni teatrante potrebbe anche
vivere di rendita: a Portovenere, in un teatrino all’aperto
che ogni anni rinasce incastonato, a ridosso del promontorio,
a due passi dalla chiesa di San Pietro e dalla
grotta di Byron; a Borgio Verezzi, in piazzetta San’Agostino
nel borgo saraceno dove il sagrato che accoglie gli
attori è una postazione di vedetta, affacciata su un mare
che ha conosciuto contaminazioni culturali sanguinarie
o fertili; ancora più a est nell’imperiese dove il profumo
della salsedine si confonde con quello dell’olio in
una “spremitura” di idee culturali organizzata lo scorso
maggio nella rassegna “I frantoi dell’arte”. Il paesaggio

summer posters advertising events in the open air,
you can easily wonder if the organizers—emphasizing the
advantage of their incredible natural scenery as a
backdrop—choose their shows only as an accessory to their
tourist attractions. But skeptics will change their mind
when they see what is on offer in Liguria this summer.
Just the settings would permit any theatre to open to a
full house no matter what’s on the program. In
Portovenere, a little open air theatre is reborn every year,
hemmed in by the Church of San Pietro, the Grotto of
Byron (the English poet spent some time in the town), and
the stone face of the promontory. In Borgio Verezzi,
Piazzetta San’Agostino, the courtyard in front of the
church in the “village of the Saracens” faces onto the sea,
a lookout point that has seen bloody battles and fertile
cultural contamination. Yet further east in the Province of
Imperia, the smell of the sea mixes with that of the olive
groves in a cultural potpourri of ideas organized in May in
the “Olive Oil Presses of Art”. The narcotic beauty of the
landscape is worthy of applause, but here no one rests on
