Ma non gli dispiace, qualche volta, essere lui
a prendere l’iniziativa. Come quando ha incrociato
una cliente di Vigevano leggere Le pietre della
Luna, il suo primo romanzo, e si è offerto di autografarlo
in lei incredula felicità.
Al Lido il mare è da bandiera blu, lo è da quando i
liquami fognari vengono pompati al depuratore di
Camisano. Prima di allora fioccavano sul litorale
lericino i divieti di balneazione che però colpivano
puntualmente le spiagge libere (e povere) e preservavano
quelle degli stabilimenti balneari come
il Lido. Per questo gli ambientalisti spezzini, con
pungente ironia, avevano parlato di colibatteri col
timone, che evitavano accuratamente le spiagge
dei ricchi.
Il prossimo libro del bagnino-scrittore uscirà a fine
estate. Buticchi sta apportando gli ultimi ritocchi
ad una storia che ruota attorno alla lancia di
Longino, lancia con cui il centurione romano colpì
il costato di Gesù e alla quale vengono attribuiti
poteri sovrannaturali come al Sacro Graal. E per
la quale si scatena una caccia attraverso i secoli
che ci porta addirittura nella villa di Licio Gelli.
Al Lido di Lerici lui gestisce il bagno e il suo immaginario
con la disinvoltura che gli deriva dalla
consuetudine. Consapevole che la realtà, comunque,
supera sempre la fantasia. «Chi avrebbe mai
potuto immaginare - osserva - che due aerei l’11
settembre si sarebbero infilati come due lame nel
burro dei grattacieli di New York?».

The lifeguard cum writer’s next book will be out at the
end of the summer. Buticchi is putting the final
touches on a story about the lance of Longinus (the
holy spear) which the Roman centurion used to pierce
Jesus’ rib, and to which supernatural powers—like
those of the holy grail—are attributed. The hunt for
the holy spear in the book crosses centuries and even
the villa where the mysterious secret agent/Masonic
Lodge maestro, Licio Gelli, lives after his release from
prison. At the Lido di Lerici, Marco Buticchi manages
his beach establishment and his imagination with the
nonchalance that comes from habit. Aware that truth
is stranger than fiction, he observes, “Who could have
thought that two planes could fly into the skyscrapers
of New York, just like a knife cutting through butter,
on September 11?”.
