ragazzacce che il femminismo lo hanno
tutte attraversato con diverso impegno
ma curiosità accertata. «Siamo
legatissime, magari non ci siamo sempre
tutte, ma al nostro viaggio in barca
difficilmente rinunciamo. Abbiamo
cominciato che i figli erano piccoli e il
lavoro incombeva, però non ci siamo
mai negate lo spazio per noi, il mare e
i discorsi seri e faceti, tra un bicchiere
di bianco e cene luculliane. L’amicizia
tra noi ci ha sostenuto tutta la vita,
naturalmente ci vediamo anche
d’inverno, coi mariti e sole, dipende
dalle volte».
Ambra lo ha scritto spinta dalle amiche
e dagli amici. In realtà si è ispirata
a un diario di bordo tenuto sempre
da Piera Torselli, fino a che nell’estate
del 2004, scesa dalla barca e sola in
città per la prima volta da anni, è stata
lei a compilarlo. Poi si è spinta oltre
incoraggiata dalle ragazze («è uno

uscito un libro di viaggio a vela da
Ponza alla Corsica, semiserio, molto
godibile e di sicuro originale, in cui si
ride ma ci si commuove anche, soprattutto
quando i bilanci di vita si
fanno seri e profondi. Ci sono anche
spiritosi disegni di un’altra “velista immaginaria”,
ovvero Paola Rorato.
Sta avendo un bel successo, persino tra
i lettori. «Sono convinta che i maschi
siano curiosi di sapere cosa si dicono le
donne quando sono sole», conclude ridendo
Ambra seduta nella sua bella
stanza in galleria. E anticipa: «Sto già
scrivendo un altro libro, ma ho paura
che non mi venga spontaneo
come questo».

the boat, and also the only one who
keeps her private life private. The
others tell all—their love lives,
relationship with their children, men,
pain, joy—all updated each year on
their traditional journey with a touch
of irony and with the witticisms of
“bad girls” who have experienced
female liberation to varying degrees,
but with intense curiosity.
“We are all extremely close, and
though on some trips someone is
missing, we make a great effort to be
there. We began doing this when our
children were young, and our work
was overwhelming, but we never gave
up that space for ourselves, the sea,
and our discussions both serious and
fun, between a glass of white wine
and dinners fit for a king. Our
friendship has sustained us
throughout our lives. Naturally, we
also meet in the winter, with
husbands and without, it depends on
the occasion.” Ambra began writing
the book with the encouragement of
her friends, inspired by the on-board
diary that Piera Torselli had always
written up until the summer of 2004.
Once off the boat, and alone in the
city for the first time in years, she
began to write her recollections of the
trip in “a fresh state of the mind that
goes beyond a recording”. The other
girls encouraged and incited her to
develop the story of a sailing voyage
from Ponza to Corsica. The book is
already a success. “I am convinced
that men are curious to know what
women talk about when they are on
their own,” laughs Ambra, sitting in a
beautiful room in her gallery. And she
gives us a peek into the future, “I am
already writing another book, but I
am afraid it will never be as
spontaneous as this one.”
