PRESS RELEASE REGARDING
THE ANNOUNCED MEETING OF
TSIPRAS WITH TRUMP
IN WASHINGTON

ith regard to the announcement in the Greek media that their Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras asked the
US President Donald Trump in Brussels to meet him in Washington, in order to request support for the
open issues in the region, including the Macedonian issue, the President of the Macedonian Alliance,
Gjorgjija Georg Atanasovski announces the following:
The Macedonian Alliance reminds the Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras not to forget where and who
from he will be requesting support for the blackmails, threats, and blockades applied over decades to terrorize
Macedonia and the Macedonian people. Their ridiculous stories about the alleged “Macedonian irredentism”
will not be bought where he is going. The US is the largest strategic ally of Macedonia, which – as early as back
in 2004 and in spite of the pressures of the mighty and numerous Greek Diaspora – recognized out Constitutional name. The Republican
Donald Trump, who became President as a representative of the ordinary Americans who work hard and make everyday contributions
to the economic development of the US, is a synonym of the same ideological matrix that always protects the interests of Macedonia and
the Macedonian people, as their faithful partner. In fact, the US will never forgive Greece that, despite of the efforts of President George
Bush at the NATO Summit in Bucharest in 2008, the then Greek Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis decided to oppose the American interests
in the region and veto the Macedonian accession to the Alliance at all costs.
It is beyond reason for any political representative of Greece to complain about pressures to resolve the name issue and claim that
Macedonia promotes irredentism. We have been in one and the same place in the EU waiting room for 12 years now and have not been
able to become a full fledge member of the NATO Alliance for 9 years, only due to the irrational moves of official Athens, which is flagrantly
abusing the rights conferred to it by the EU and NATO membership. A proof of this is the ruling of the International Court of Justice in
Hague, which concluded that the Interim Agreement has been violated by Greece.
The Macedonian people is asking what rightly belongs to it in accordance with all international norms of the UN, i.e. to exercise the universal
right to self-determination, which belongs to is naturally, just as it does to any other Member State. The paradoxical accusations by
the Greek nationalists of Macedonia are due to the fact that their conscience is not clean as a result of the historic injustice inflicted onto
Macedonia with the Bucharest agreement. It is shameful for Alexis Tsipras to keep repeating one and the same thesis about the alleged
Macedonian irredentism, knowing that – since 1913 – it was due to their assimilation policies that all Macedonian toponyms in Aegean
Macedonia were changed, which is the clearest possible historical fact that proves the existence of Macedonia and the Macedonian people.
The statements and provocations of Pavlopoulos, Kamenos, Kotsias, and Kumutsakos are not even worth mentioning and should be
included in the school books as a textbook example of hatred towards one neighboring people.
Unlike some others in the Fatherland, the Macedonian Alliance does not interpret these moves in the foreign policy of official Athens
as a weakness of the latter or nervousness resulting from the support enjoyed by Macedonia from its international allies.
It was not enough for our southern neighbor to have changed all toponyms in the annexed Aegean Macedonia, to terrorize the Macedonian
people, and not to recognize the human rights of the Macedonian – now, in the 21st Century, it even wants to intervene even in
the toponyms on the territory of the Republic of Macedonia. The absurd!
On the contrary, we are convinced that this is the result of a cunning strategy that is intended to strike the final blow against us. Yet, despite
everything, Macedonia is demonstrating hugely constructive attitude in the efforts to come up with a reasonable approach in the bilateral
relations with Greece. We are right to persistently claim that – although we have made enormous concessions, changed our flag and
Constitution, signed the Interim Agreement, accepted a shameful temporary reference for UN membership – official Athens will not retreat
a single millimeter from its strategy to ask us to do the impossible by resorting to blackmails and pressures. This is why we want to underline
once again that now is the moment to interrupt the negotiations on the name issue; otherwise, we will ourselves take part in our own
deprivation of identity and jeopardize the future of Macedonians to come.
The Macedonian political players need to immediately clarify all dilemmas faced by our people in the Fatherland and beyond its borders.
It must be stated without any delay that, regardless of the complex internal political relationships, no political party, no leader or politician
in the Fatherland will ever agree to negotiate or talk about changing or waiving the Constitutional name and identity.
