reason for the fact that there are still relatively few sustainable
financial investments in Germany is that the
German capital market as a whole is relatively small,
compared to the UK, for example. There were also far
fewer pension funds.
In Robert Hassler’s experience, “many companies
have now come to realise that sustainability is a criterion
for a good reputation, and thus of importance for
credits. We and other rating agencies used to find it
very difficult to obtain information. Today, major enterprises
have an interest in the propagation of information
on corporate sustainability and in a corresponding
ranking.” The Dow Jones Sustainability
Index had become important and was developing
well, “that encourages the topic”. Ralf Frank was of the
opinion that it would be important for not only quoted,
but also credit-financed companies to gear themselves
to sustainability criteria, and to provide information
about them in their management reports.
