In this volume, as in Volume 1 of our Report Series, we
translate the term “Wertegesellschaft” as “value-based
society”. It was only recently that the use of the term
has become so differentiated as to refer not only to
ethi cal values but, in expressions such as “value-based
management”, also to financial value. With regard
to ethical values, the expression “values-based” is
increasingly gaining currency. For reasons of uniformity,
however, we have decided to retain the original
translation –“value-based”– in this volume as well.
