I am of this conviction. I will start my pleading
with a brief excursion into moral philosophy. Based on
the current situation, I will then focus particularly on
the role of the banks in the economic cycle and explain
why they are in part quite rightly caught in the
cross-fire of criticism today. In order to not just moan,
but also make a constructive contribution, I would like
to briefly outline the direction to be taken by possible
solutions for reducing “ethical risks” in the banking
sector. Finally, I will then present a few extremely interesting
insights that prove that the capital market is
beginning to wake up.
Ethics in five minutes
Ethics or moral philosophy is the branch of philosophy
that deals with moral phenomena and thus with values.
A distinction can be made between three fields or
problem areas in ethics:
I Normative or prescriptive ethics discusses which
moral standards are the right ones.
I Descriptive ethics examines the psychological, biological,
social and historical foundations of moral
phenomena.
I Meta-ethics examines the distinction between moral
and non-moral phenomena and the epistemological,
language-philosophical and ontological basis
of moral judgements.
