Bosnien, 1955. Atif, Sohn eines Bergmanns,
fährt gerade in die Grube ein, als er erfährt,
dass sein Gesicht künftig die wertvollste
Banknote im ganzen Land zieren wird,
den 1000-Dinar-Schein. Niemand weiß,
wie er eigentlich zu dieser Ehre kommt.
Er wird nach Belgrad eingeladen und trifft
dort sogar den Staatschef, Josip Broz Tito.
Nach der Rückkehr gilt er in seinem Provinzkaff
als berühmter Mann. Er bekommt
einen guten Job, genießt die neu erworbenen
Privilegien und alles scheint bestens.
Bis er sich in eine Prostituierte verliebt,
eine junge Frau, die Probleme regelrecht
anzieht und die von allen nur „Tausend“
genannt wird – so viel, wie ihre meistgebuchte
Dienstleistung kostet. Atif kündigt
und lebt ein echtes Lotterleben. Was ihn
wurmt: Gesellschaftlich anerkannt werden
er und seine Freundin nicht. Da heißt es
plötzlich, dass Tito zu Besuch kommt…
Thousand ist eine wirklich witzige Komödie
über den Kommunismus und die
Arbeiterbewegung, über Menschenrechte
und Klassenunterschiede. All das ist natürlich
nach wie vor aktuell, selbst wenn die
Themen momentan aus der Zeit gefallen
erscheinen. Der Film hat das Zeug zum
Kassenschlager und beeindruckt in erster
Linie durch ein hervorragendes En semble
und ein tolles Skript. Dass einiges ganz
klar unter die Rubrik lokaler Humor fällt,
wird zumindest Bosnier gar nicht stören.
Bosnia, 1955. Atif, a miner's son, is about
to go down into the mine when he is told
that his face is going to adorn the country's
most valuable bank note in future:
the 1000 Dinar note. Nobody knows what
he has done to deserve this honour. He is
invited to Belgrade, where he even meets
head of state Josip Broz Tito in person. After
his return, he is considered a famous
man in his provincial backwater. He gets
a fine job, enjoys the newly acquired privileges,
everything seems perfect. Until
he falls in love with a prostitute, a young
woman who is a proper trouble magnet,
and who is only called “Thousand” by
everyone – referring to the amount she
charges for her most popular service. Atif
resigns and indulges in a dissolute lifestyle.
What irritates him: he and his new
girlfriend do not get any social respect. All
of a sudden, a visit by Tito is announced.
Thousand by the Bosnian director Nenad
Đurić is a very funny comedy about communism
and the labour movement, about
human rights and class distinctions. Obviously,
all of this is still contemporary,
even if the topics seem to have fallen out
of time momentarily. The film has the makings
of a real box office hit and primarily
impresses its audience through an excellent
cast and a terrific script. Especially
Bosnians are definitely not going to mind
the fact that some of the gags clearly fall
into the category of local sense of humour.

Biographie Nenad Đurić
Der Regisseur und Drehbuchautor Nenad Ɖurić
wurde 1970 in Sarajevo geboren, wo er Vergleichende
Literaturwissenschaft studierte. Seit 1994 ist er
als Regisseur und Produzent für das bosnische Fernsehen
tätig. Seine Dokumentationen wurden mehrfach
prämiert. 2006 feierte Nenad Ɖurić mit Skies
Above The Landscape sein Spielfilmdebüt, wofür er
beim Sofia International Film Festival sowie in Japan
ausgezeichnet wurde. Thousand ist Ɖurićs zweiter
abendfüllender Spielfilm und feierte im Rahmen des
Sarajevo Film Festivals Weltpremiere.
