Der Polizist Sergey rast voller Vorfreude ins
Krankenhaus. Seine Frau liegt bereits in
den Wehen. Auf dem Weg fährt er einen
kleinen Jungen an, der den Zusammenprall
nicht überlebt. Anstatt seine Schuld
zu gestehen, nutzt der Major seine Position,
um den Vorfall zu vertuschen. Bald darauf
beginnt ihn allerdings sein schlechtes
Gewissen zu quälen. Der junge russische
Filmemacher Yury Bykov widmet sich in
seinem zweiten abendfüllenden Spielfilm
dem Thema Korruption sowie dem
Verfall moralischer Grundprinzipien. Die
Geschichte wird nicht bloß aus der Sicht
des Opfers erzählt, sondern liefert auch
Einblicke in die Psyche von Tätern. Beide
Seiten scheinen sich immer mehr in den
Fallstricken des Systems zu verfangen und
agieren zunehmend verzweifelt und brutal.
Bykov zeichnet sowohl für die Regie, das
Drehbuch, die Filmmusik als auch für den
Schnitt verantwortlich und ist zudem in
einer Hauptrolle zu sehen. Premiere feierte
das vielbeachtete Werk im Rahmen der
Semaine de la Critique bei den Internationalen
Filmfestspielen von Cannes 2013. Im
selben Jahr wurde der ebenso packende
wie tiefgründige und actionreiche Thriller
beim Shanghai International Film Festival
als bester Film prämiert, Bykov selbst
erhielt zudem ebendort Auszeichnungen
für die beste Regie und die Filmmusik.
Full of excitement, policeman Sergey floors
his car's gas pedal to reach the hospital
where his wife is already in labour. Along
the way, his car hits a little boy, who does
not survive the crash. Instead of admitting
his fault, the major uses his high rank to
cover up the incident. Very soon, however,
his bad conscience starts to torture him. In
his second full-length feature film, young
Russian filmmaker Yury Bykov deals with
the subject of corruption and the deterioration
of fundamental moral principles.
The story is told not only from the victim's
perspective, but also provides insight into
the minds of perpetrators. Both sides seem
to get increasingly trapped in the snares
of the system, acting with growing desperation
and brutality. Bykov is responsible
for the direction, screenplay, soundtrack
and editing, but also plays a leading role in
the film. His widely-noticed piece was first
shown during the Semaine de la Critique at
the Cannes 2013 International Film Festival.
That same year, this thriller, which is as exciting
as it is rich in profundity and action,
won Best Film at the Shanghai International
Film Festival, where Bykov received
awards for best direction and score.
