At least 160 men In tails appeared in the
"Musikverein" to give a concert in honour of
the Viennese Choral Society for Men, which
celebrated its 125th anniversary, and sang
with nothing Short of staggering precision and
beauty of sound. The volume would have been
effortlessly ample for our City Hall and the
choirmaster, H. J. Rübben (who looks like
Bernstein) controlied his group with musical
elegance.

The choir of about 150 may well be an example
for many local big choirs in respect
to quality of voices (espesially the tenors),
exact Intonation, control of the dynamics
from enormous forte down to the most delicate
piano in well-practised gradations, musi
cal exactness and expression. The energetical
conductor Hermannjosef Rübben is definitely
one of those Choral trainers who is
best fitted for his job.

Othegrave illuminates the excellent qualities
of this choir: fullness, homogeneity, transparence,
precision, dynamic differentiation.

by it's conductor (and composer) Prof. H.
Rübben, combines the traditions with the
artistical rendering of true present values in
respect to choir einging.

Hermaniosef Rübben conducted the Kölner
Männer-Gesang-Verein in the second half of
the concert. His precise technique, the clear
time- and other indications, changing from
piece to piece, resulted in an exemplary
unity of sound in respect to rythmical drive
with conforming clear pronounciation, compelling
dynamic intensity and clear melodic
interrelations.

As in the past the astounding facility of
change in sound and dynamics, the adaptibility
and Sharp articulation give these Cologne
Singers a Special place amoungst the Choral
societies of today.

... For this, such a voice-trainer as Rübben
is needed; one who, practically speaking,
controlls the individual voices, directiy engaging
this sound apparatus, forcing it to
piano as well as fiery forte. Here one hears
a choir which listens into its inner seif and
which is trained to such an extent that the
unobtrusive dinamic touch and the precise
rhythmic formation in the „Gondelfahrer" by
Schubert was achieved effortlessly.
