FIGURE 11.15 (Top left) First step in installation of a glass-block panel is to coat the sill with
an asphalt emulsion to allow for movement due to temperature changes. Continuous expansion
strips are installed at side and head jambs. (Top right) Blocks are set with full mortar joints.
(Bottom left) Welded-wire ties are embedded in the mortar to reinforce the panel. (Bottom right)
After all the blocks are placed, joints tooled to a smooth, concave finish, and the edges of the
panel calked, the blocks are cleaned.
