Manufactured in technical, food and USP grade in two concentrations – 50% and 88%<br />

SYNERGISTS: Lactic acid acts synergistically with acetic acid as an antimicrobial preservative<br />

FOOD SAFETY ISSUES: LD50 (mg/kg body weight) lactic acid. Mouse 4,875 oral route. Rat 3,730 oral route. Guinea pig 1,810<br />

oral route.<br />

LD50 (mg/kg body weight) ferrous lactate. Mouse 147 oral route.<br />

LD50 (mg/kg body weight) sodium lactate. Rat 2,000 intraperitoneal route.<br />

Acceptable daily intake for humans of lactic acid is not limited for lactic acid and its calcium,<br />

potassium, ammonium and sodium salts and is limited up to 100 mg/kg body weight for DL-lactic acid.<br />

Lactic acid and the calcium, potassium, and sodium salt should not be used in infant foods and<br />

formulas in either the D(-) or DL form; acetic acid may be substituted.<br />
