(2) Carbonated beverages 0.025% in beverages as consumed<br />

(3) Beverages; beverage concentrates, beverage mixes; dairy beverages; 0.05% in beverages as consumed<br />

(except for any of these products for which standards are set out in<br />

these Regulations)<br />

(4) Desserts; dessert mixes; toppings; fillings; filling mixes; (except for 0.1% in products as consumed<br />

any of these products for which standards are set out in these<br />

Regulations)<br />

(5) Chewing gum; breath-freshener products 0.35%<br />

(6) Fruit spreads (except for any of these products for which standards 0.1%<br />

are set out in these Regulations)<br />

(7) Salad dressings (except for any of these products for which 0.05%<br />

standards are set out in these Regulations)<br />

(8) Confectionery 0.25%<br />

(9) Bakery mixes; bakery products; (except for any of these products 0.1% in products as consumed<br />

for which standards are set out in these Regulations)<br />

AUSTRALIA/PACIFIC RIM:<br />

Approved for use in Australia<br />

Regulatory Status: ADI level as of 1990 for use in soft drinks<br />

– Australia: 3000 mg/kg<br />

– Japan: Not permitted<br />

–New Zealand: Pending approval<br />

OTHER COUNTRIES:<br />

Accepted as safe by WHO/FAO with an ADI of 0 to 9 mg/kg body weight<br />

Approved for use in South Africa, Cyprus, and Egypt
