Sorbitol solution, USP/FCC:<br />

– Consists primarily of D-sorbitol with a small amount of mannitol and other polyhydric alcohols<br />

– Should be stored above 21°C to prevent crystallisation<br />

– Can be used as a humectant in confections, cosmetics, tobacco and adhesives<br />

– Contributes body and flavour to vehicles for pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, and to some beverages and foods<br />

– Non-cariogenic, so used in “sugar-free” foods, dentrifices, and pharmaceuticals<br />

– Used as a plasticiser, stabiliser and a raw material in the manufacture of sorbitan esters/polysorbates and polyurethanes<br />

–Viscosity at 25°C: 110 cP<br />

– Specific gravity at 25/25°C: 1.300<br />

–% Residue on ignition: 0.01<br />

–% Total sugars: 0.20<br />

–% Reducing sugars: 0.02<br />

– Status: Meets all compendial USP 23 and FCC requirements<br />

Sorbitol Crystalline, NF/FCC:<br />

– Slightly soluble in alcohol, methanol and acetic acid<br />

– pH (5 g/100 ml water): 6.0 to 7.0<br />

– Appearance: white, free-flowing powder and granules, essentially free of foreign matter<br />

– Identification: Meets NF/FCC tests<br />

– Loss on drying: maximum 1.0%<br />

– Reducing sugars: maximum 0.30%<br />

–Total sugars: maximum 1.0%<br />

– Sulphate: maximum 0.010%<br />

– Chloride: maximum 0.0050%<br />

– Status: GRAS and complies with all the compendial requirements of the US National Formulary and <strong>Food</strong> Chemical Codex<br />

Sorbitol Crystalline:<br />

– Grade: NF/FCC<br />

– Granulation/concentration: granular coarse powder, tablet type, 60 mesh<br />

– Applications: used as tableting agent for making chewable and non-chewable tablets; replaces sugar in “sugar-free” gums; adds a pleasant cooling taste<br />

to candy products.<br />
