This first Part looks at the experience of<br />

the MDGs to date from different <strong>an</strong>gles.<br />

It examines the global experience of<br />

the MDGs <strong>an</strong>d the lessons that c<strong>an</strong> be<br />

drawn from their use as <strong>an</strong> overarching<br />

framework <strong>for</strong> the reduction of global<br />

poverty (Chapter 1). It then focuses on<br />

the experience of the MDGs in four<br />

developing countries based on the<br />

conclusions of the case studies conducted<br />

in Nepal, Rw<strong>an</strong>da, Côte d’Ivoire <strong>an</strong>d<br />

Peru. Their experience is looked at in<br />

terms of external <strong>an</strong>d domestic drivers<br />

of or barriers to ch<strong>an</strong>ge <strong>an</strong>d development<br />

(Chapter 2). Finally, it explores the<br />

responses of developed countries to the<br />

MDGs, with as <strong>an</strong> example, <strong>an</strong> <strong>an</strong>alysis<br />

of the EU’s role in supporting their<br />

achievement (Chapter 3).<br />
