This second Part considers how the<br />

world has ch<strong>an</strong>ged since the Millennium<br />

Declaration was agreed <strong>an</strong>d the MDGs<br />

devised <strong>an</strong>d adopted. It starts by taking<br />

a look at ch<strong>an</strong>ges in the political economy<br />

of international cooperation with<br />

Southern actors growing in import<strong>an</strong>ce,<br />

the part played by developing countries<br />

themselves, <strong>an</strong>d the ch<strong>an</strong>ging role that<br />

traditional donors are likely to play<br />

given recent trends in their own economies<br />

(Chapter 4). The <strong>an</strong>alysis then goes<br />

on to consider ch<strong>an</strong>ging global patterns<br />

of poverty <strong>an</strong>d the role of research in<br />

improving the global underst<strong>an</strong>ding of<br />

poverty <strong>an</strong>d development thinking over<br />

the past decade (Chapter 5). Finally, it<br />

brings together a review of future demographic,<br />

economic, social <strong>an</strong>d environmental<br />

trends <strong>an</strong>d the challenges that<br />

a new global framework may there<strong>for</strong>e<br />

need to address (Chapter 6).<br />
