6.4 C<strong>on</strong>clusi<strong>on</strong>s<br />

1. Gum <strong>and</strong> filled composites with 5phr c<strong>on</strong>venti<strong>on</strong>al ZnO (S-1 <strong>and</strong> S-5)<br />

have better cure characteristics, tensile properties <strong>and</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

technological properties compared to composites with 2phr ZnO(c).<br />

2. Filled composites with 2phr ZnO(p) <strong>and</strong> ZnO(s) (S-6 <strong>and</strong> S-7) showed<br />

better cure characteristics <strong>and</strong> tensile properties compared to<br />

composites with 1phr ZnO(p) <strong>and</strong> 1phr ZnO(s) (S-9 <strong>and</strong> S-10).<br />

3. Compounds with low dosage (2phr) <strong>of</strong> ZnO(p) <strong>and</strong> ZnO(s) showed<br />

similar cure characteristics as that with high dosage (5phr) <strong>of</strong><br />

c<strong>on</strong>venti<strong>on</strong>al ZnO(c).<br />

4. Tensile properties <strong>of</strong> composites with optimum dosage <strong>of</strong> ZnO(p) <strong>and</strong><br />

ZnO(s) are comparable to vulcanizates with 5phr ZnO(c).<br />

5. Compressi<strong>on</strong> set, abrasi<strong>on</strong> loss, heat build-up values are low for<br />

vulcanizates with optimum dosage <strong>of</strong> ZnO(p) <strong>and</strong> ZnO(s).<br />

6. Retenti<strong>on</strong> <strong>in</strong> tensile properties <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> vulcanizates with low dosage <strong>of</strong><br />

ZnO(p) <strong>and</strong> ZnO(s) after <strong>the</strong>rmal age<strong>in</strong>g is superior compared to<br />

vulcanizate with 5phr c<strong>on</strong>venti<strong>on</strong>al ZnO.<br />

7. Crossl<strong>in</strong>k density <strong>of</strong> composite with optimum dosage <strong>of</strong> ZnO(p) <strong>and</strong><br />

ZnO(s) are slightly higher than vulcanizates with 5phr c<strong>on</strong>venti<strong>on</strong>al<br />

ZnO.<br />

8. The swell<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>dex values are found to be equivalent for gum <strong>and</strong><br />

filled vulcanizates with 2phr ZnO(p), 2phr ZnO(s) <strong>and</strong> 5phr ZnO(c).
