Products from rice husk as filler <strong>in</strong> natural rubber<br />

pore structures with pore sizes between 1.5-10 nm, make <strong>the</strong>m potential<br />

Supra molecular surfactant aggregates are <strong>use</strong>d as surface direct<strong>in</strong>g<br />

agent for <strong>in</strong>-organics dur<strong>in</strong>g c<strong>on</strong>densati<strong>on</strong> lead<strong>in</strong>g to mesoscopically ordered<br />

surfactant–<strong>in</strong>organic composite. Porosity can be <strong>in</strong>duced <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>organic part<br />

by removal <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> surfactant porti<strong>on</strong> through <strong>the</strong>rmal or chemical means.<br />

In this study, we describe <strong>the</strong> preparati<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> mesoporous <strong>silica</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />

rice husk <strong>silica</strong> from rice husk <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir <strong>use</strong> as filler <strong>in</strong> natural rubber<br />

compounds <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>modified</strong> form. Mesoporous <strong>silica</strong> is prepared from sodium<br />

<strong>silica</strong>te which <strong>in</strong> turn was prepared from fully burnt rice hull ash <strong>and</strong> rice<br />

husk <strong>silica</strong> (RH<strong>silica</strong>) is prepared directly from rice husk.<br />

This mesoporous <strong>silica</strong> <strong>and</strong> rice husk <strong>silica</strong> (RH<strong>silica</strong>) are <strong>modified</strong><br />

with antioxidant IPPD (N-Phenyl–N'-isopropyl)–p-phenylenediam<strong>in</strong>e. The<br />

natural rubber vulcanizates with antioxidant <strong>modified</strong> mesoporous <strong>silica</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />

precipitated <strong>silica</strong> are compared for bound rubber c<strong>on</strong>tent <strong>and</strong> mechanical<br />

properties. Also <strong>the</strong> natural rubber vulcanizate with antioxidant <strong>modified</strong><br />

RH<strong>silica</strong> are compared with vulcanizate filled with neat RH<strong>silica</strong> for<br />

mechanical properties.<br />
