Italy<br />
CHAPTER<br />
Cultural relations <strong>between</strong> Italy <strong>and</strong> <strong>Russia</strong> have deep roots in many fields: from music <strong>to</strong><br />
ballet, from painting <strong>to</strong> architecture, cinema <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>atre. Through <strong>the</strong> ages, Italian artists<br />
<strong>and</strong> masters brought new techniques <strong>to</strong> <strong>Russia</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>to</strong>ok from <strong>Russia</strong> new inspirations.<br />
One can find Italian artistic, his<strong>to</strong>rical <strong>and</strong> literary memories in many <strong>Russia</strong>n cities <strong>and</strong><br />
<strong>to</strong>wns. In <strong>the</strong> same way, one can follow <strong>the</strong> steps <strong>of</strong> <strong>Russia</strong>n artists <strong>and</strong> writers who have<br />
been living <strong>and</strong> creating in Italy, leaving <strong>the</strong>re significant traces.<br />
This long-st<strong>and</strong>ing tradition, which has been developing in recent years, reached its peak<br />
with <strong>the</strong> year-long festival ‘Italy /<strong>Russia</strong>’ in 2005 which brought Italian art, <strong>the</strong>atre <strong>and</strong><br />
ballet <strong>to</strong> <strong>Russia</strong>.<br />
In <strong>the</strong> immediate future many significant events are scheduled, such as <strong>the</strong> festival ‘Futurism<br />
in Italy <strong>and</strong> <strong>Russia</strong>’ – including pictures, cinema, music, ballet <strong>and</strong> literature <strong>of</strong> that<br />
<strong>import</strong>ant period. Also programmed are a concert by <strong>the</strong> Luigi Cherubini Youth Orchestra,<br />
directed by M. Riccardo Muti, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> ballet ‘Italian Stars in <strong>Russia</strong>’ with Rober<strong>to</strong> Bolle,<br />
é<strong>to</strong>ile <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Italian La Scala Theatre.<br />

1999, respectively)<br />
Who is responsible for implementing <strong>the</strong>se regulations?<br />
The Ministry for Cultural Assets <strong>and</strong> Activities (Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali), or<br />
MIBAC, is responsible for implementation, through <strong>the</strong> <strong>export</strong> department for art objects.<br />
All competences in this field are regulated <strong>and</strong> controlled by <strong>the</strong> Ministry.<br />
There are twelve regional <strong>export</strong> <strong>of</strong>fices (Soprintendenze – also known as Uffici esportazione<br />
