Slovakia<br />
founder or establisher <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> museum or gallery who decides on <strong>the</strong> application. The permit<br />
is issued by <strong>the</strong> founder or establisher who sends a copy <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> permit <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ministry<br />
<strong>of</strong> Culture. The decision on issuing <strong>the</strong> permit is made within 15 days from <strong>the</strong> date <strong>of</strong><br />
delivery <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> application.<br />
The maximum term for temporary <strong>export</strong> is three years.<br />
According <strong>to</strong> Act No. 49/2002 Coll. on <strong>the</strong> protection <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> monuments fund, a permit<br />
application for <strong>the</strong> temporary <strong>export</strong> <strong>of</strong> a <strong>cultural</strong> monument is submitted <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ministry <strong>of</strong><br />
Culture sufficiently in advance since it requires cooperation with <strong>the</strong> Office for <strong>the</strong> Preservation<br />
<strong>of</strong> His<strong>to</strong>rical Monuments.<br />
The applicant submits <strong>the</strong> application directly or through <strong>the</strong> Office for <strong>the</strong> Preservation <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> His<strong>to</strong>rical Monuments.<br />
No <strong>cultural</strong> monument or its part may be permanently <strong>export</strong>ed from <strong>the</strong> terri<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>of</strong> Slovakia.<br />
It may be temporarily <strong>export</strong>ed from <strong>the</strong> terri<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>of</strong> Slovakia but for no longer than<br />
three years, <strong>and</strong> only based on a permit <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ministry following <strong>the</strong> opinion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Office<br />
for <strong>the</strong> Preservation <strong>of</strong> His<strong>to</strong>rical Monuments.<br />
The Ministry <strong>of</strong> Culture may base <strong>the</strong> issuing <strong>of</strong> a permit for <strong>the</strong> temporary <strong>export</strong><br />
<strong>of</strong> a <strong>cultural</strong> monument on condition <strong>of</strong> an insurance contract or <strong>of</strong> a guarantee<br />
related <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>cultural</strong> monument as designated by expert opinion,<br />
or on <strong>the</strong> fulfilment <strong>of</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r conditions. Any costs connected with <strong>the</strong> permit for<br />
temporary <strong>export</strong> are payable by <strong>the</strong> applicant or <strong>the</strong> party in whose interest <strong>the</strong><br />
permit is issued.<br />
I am a visual artist. Do I need a licence <strong>to</strong> <strong>export</strong> my own work?<br />
An <strong>export</strong> licence or permit is only required for works <strong>of</strong> art that are more than 50 years old<br />
<strong>and</strong> do not belong <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir authors.<br />
I am a musician. Do I need <strong>to</strong> know about <strong>export</strong> regulations if I am travelling with my<br />
instrument?<br />
Yes. Any musician who wishes <strong>to</strong> travel with a musical instrument which is over a certain<br />
age <strong>and</strong> value must obtain an EU <strong>export</strong> licence (as described in Chapter 2). This applies<br />
whe<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> <strong>export</strong> is temporary, e.g. for a concert <strong>to</strong>ur, or permanent.<br />
I am a <strong>to</strong>urist visiting Slovakia. If I buy a work <strong>of</strong> art, how do I take it home with me?<br />
If you have bought a <strong>cultural</strong> good as defined by Council Regulation 3911/92 on <strong>the</strong> <strong>export</strong><br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>cultural</strong> <strong>goods</strong> (<strong>the</strong> list <strong>of</strong> categories <strong>of</strong> <strong>cultural</strong> <strong>goods</strong> covered by it is included in<br />
Chapter 2 <strong>of</strong> this Guide), <strong>the</strong>n you must apply for an <strong>export</strong> licence <strong>to</strong> Slovak authorities.<br />
First <strong>of</strong> all, check <strong>the</strong> age <strong>and</strong> value categories <strong>to</strong> determine whe<strong>the</strong>r your good falls under<br />
<strong>the</strong> scope <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Regulation.<br />
