Slovakia is party <strong>to</strong> both <strong>the</strong> UNESCO<br />

Convention <strong>of</strong> 1970 (by notifi cation <strong>of</strong><br />

succession in 1993) <strong>and</strong> UNIDROIT Convention<br />

<strong>of</strong> 1995 (ratifi ed in 2003)<br />

for <strong>the</strong> return <strong>of</strong> archive documents illegally<br />

<strong>export</strong>ed or <strong>import</strong>ed.<br />

Do I need an <strong>export</strong> licence?<br />

“Space Statistics”.<br />

Kellenberger is a contemporary Slovak painter,<br />

award-winning children’s book illustra<strong>to</strong>r <strong>and</strong><br />

graphic artist. This painting was shown as<br />

part <strong>of</strong> his exhibition at <strong>the</strong> Slovak Institution in<br />

Moscow in autumn 2006 <strong>and</strong> subsequently at<br />

<strong>the</strong> Tula Museum <strong>of</strong> Fine Arts.<br />

For <strong>the</strong> <strong>export</strong> from Slovakia <strong>to</strong> outside <strong>the</strong><br />

EU <strong>of</strong> a <strong>cultural</strong> good as defined by Council<br />

Regulation 3911/92, you need <strong>to</strong> apply for<br />

an <strong>export</strong> licence <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ministry <strong>of</strong> Culture.<br />

However, if it is archives <strong>and</strong> archival documents,<br />

you should apply <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ministry <strong>of</strong><br />

Interior, <strong>the</strong> authority that issues licences<br />

for those <strong>goods</strong>.<br />
