If you want <strong>to</strong> apply for <strong>the</strong> temporary <strong>export</strong> <strong>of</strong> documents <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> National Documentary<br />
Fond, <strong>to</strong>ge<strong>the</strong>r with <strong>the</strong> application you must present <strong>the</strong> following information <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Lithuanian Archives Department:<br />
• The purpose <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>export</strong> <strong>of</strong> documents, destination place <strong>and</strong> period, conservation<br />
<strong>and</strong> exhibition conditions (copies <strong>of</strong> documents confirming this information)<br />
• Accounting information, quantity, names (titles), dates, physical condition, possible<br />
insurance value<br />
If you want <strong>to</strong> apply for <strong>the</strong> permanent <strong>export</strong> <strong>of</strong> documents <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> National Documentary<br />
Fond, <strong>to</strong>ge<strong>the</strong>r with <strong>the</strong> application you must present <strong>the</strong> following information <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Lithuanian Archives Department:<br />
• Link <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficial site on <strong>the</strong> Internet <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> international agreement which is <strong>the</strong> basis<br />
for <strong>the</strong> intended <strong>export</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> documents<br />
• Accounting information, quantity, names (titles), dates <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> documents<br />
When <strong>export</strong>ing documents over 50 years old, you must indicate <strong>the</strong> destination country<br />
<strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> names (titles) <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> documents.<br />
Permanent <strong>export</strong> from Lithuania <strong>of</strong> documents <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> National Documentary Fond is prohibited,<br />
except when such <strong>export</strong> is permitted under <strong>the</strong> international agreements on <strong>the</strong><br />
reconstruction <strong>of</strong> national archival heritage <strong>of</strong> a State.<br />
The National Documentary Fond may ask for copies or pho<strong>to</strong>graphs <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>export</strong>ing documents.<br />
It takes up <strong>to</strong> 15 days <strong>to</strong> issue a permit for <strong>the</strong> <strong>export</strong> <strong>of</strong> documents, from <strong>the</strong> date <strong>of</strong><br />
request. The Lithuanian Archives Department has <strong>the</strong> right <strong>to</strong> extend this period for up <strong>to</strong><br />
30 days, where <strong>the</strong> Commission <strong>of</strong> Experts is involved. Any permit issued for <strong>the</strong> <strong>export</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
documents is valid for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 12 months.<br />
How do I find if <strong>the</strong> art object I want <strong>to</strong> <strong>export</strong> is <strong>of</strong> national significance? Is <strong>the</strong>re a Public<br />

<strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Cultural Heritage Protection or <strong>the</strong> Lithuanian Archives Department<br />
depending on which type <strong>of</strong> object you want <strong>to</strong> <strong>export</strong>.<br />
Do museums <strong>and</strong> galleries need licences for temporary <strong>export</strong>s (e.g. a <strong>to</strong>uring exhibition)? Do<br />
non-pr<strong>of</strong>it organisations need <strong>export</strong> licences?<br />

When an application is made for <strong>the</strong> temporary <strong>export</strong> <strong>of</strong> antiques or movable <strong>cultural</strong><br />
property for <strong>the</strong> purposes <strong>of</strong> <strong>cultural</strong> <strong>and</strong> artistic events, exhibition, res<strong>to</strong>ration or repair,<br />
<strong>the</strong> normal criteria which justify <strong>the</strong> refusal <strong>of</strong> an <strong>export</strong> permit do not apply. Such an appli-<br />
