The deprivations-based measure also <strong>in</strong>dicates that there is no difference between<br />

levels of deprivation for girls <strong>and</strong> boys. However, analysis of specific severe<br />

deprivations <strong>in</strong>dicates that girls are more severely deprived than boys <strong>in</strong> terms of<br />

education (see Chapter IV). There is also a correlation between the level of education<br />

of the head of the household <strong>and</strong> the <strong>in</strong>cidence of poverty among children. For<br />

example, <strong>in</strong> households where the head has no education, 68 per cent of children live<br />

<strong>in</strong> absolute poverty compared with 11 per cent <strong>in</strong> households where the head has<br />

secondary or higher education.<br />

Recalculat<strong>in</strong>g the absolute measure by three, rather than two deprivations shows that<br />

21 per cent of children at national level (7 per cent <strong>in</strong> urban areas <strong>and</strong> 28 per cent <strong>in</strong><br />

rural areas) are liv<strong>in</strong>g with three or more deprivations. By this measure, children <strong>in</strong><br />

Zambezia prov<strong>in</strong>ce are also the most affected, with 39 per cent fac<strong>in</strong>g three or more<br />
