(8-5)• Support the motorcycle with a jack relieve no load on the rearshock absorber.• Remove the rear shock absorber upper and lower mountingbolts and nuts.• Take out the rear shock absorber.INSPECTIONInspect the shock absorber body and bushing for damage andoil leakage.If any defects are found, replace the shock absorber with a newone.Do not attempt to disassemble the rear shock absorberunit. It is unserviceable.
CHASSIS 8-41REAR SHOCK ABSORBER DISPOSALThe rear shock unit contains high-pressure nitrogengas. Mishandling can cause explosion.* Keep away from fire and heat. High gas pressurecaused by heat can cause an explosion.* Release gas pressure before disposing.GAS PRESSURE RELEASE• Mark the drill hole at A with a center punch.A: 10 mm• Cover the rear shock absorber with a transparent vinyl bag 1.• Hold the rear shock absorber 2 with a vice.• Make a hole with a 3 mm drill.Wear eye protection to protect your eyes fromreleased gas and metal chips.NOTE:When holding the absorber, its bushing must be faced upward.REMOUNTINGRemount the rear shock absorbers in the reverse order ofremoval. Pay attention to the following points:• Install the rear shock absorber and tighten the rear shockabsorber upper/lower mounting nuts. Rear shock absorber mounting nut (upper and lower):50 N·m (5.0 kgf-m)
