I.8 Orchestral studies and techniques 1 (for students in their first year ofstudy) (3 credits)(This course is also offered to first year non-BA students for inter-Faculty broadening purposes.)Students participate in weekly rehearsals and performances with the University's orchestra over twosemesters. Besides musical skills, this course focuses on teamwork, discipline and creativity. To gainadmission to the course, students must have reached the standard of ABRSM Grade 6 or the equivalenton one of the following: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, percussion, violin,viola, cello or double bass and must pass an audition.Assessment will be based on participation and a practical examination.263MUSI1012. I.9 Ensemble music performance (3 credits)(This course is also offered to first year non-BA students for inter-Faculty broadening purposes.)This course, which is open to all students, focuses on musical performance. Students participate inweekly rehearsals by the Department's performing ensembles – the Choral Workshop and Gamelan- over two semesters.Assessment will be based on participation and a practical examination.MUSI1013. I.10 Cantonese opera workshop (3 credits)(This course is also offered to first year non-BA students for inter-Faculty broadening purposes.)This course, which is open to all, trains students in the singing of arias from Cantonese opera and otheraspects of performance.
