To read these valuable sources for the study <strong>of</strong> Chinese culturalhistory, however, one cannot rely simply on experience in reading Classical Chinese. One must alsoreceive additional training in the special features <strong>of</strong> Buddhist Chinese. This course will emphasizeclose reading <strong>of</strong> different kinds <strong>of</strong> texts utilizing rigorous philological principles. Among the requiredreadings are the following:
