75Admission to the <strong>BA</strong> degreeA 2To be eligible for admission to the <strong>BA</strong> degree, candidates shall:(a)(b)(c)comply with the General Regulations;comply with the Regulations for First Degree Curricula; andsatisfy all the requirements <strong>of</strong> the curriculum in accordance with these regulations andthe syllabuses.Length <strong>of</strong> StudyA 3 <strong>The</strong> curriculum for the <strong>BA</strong> degree shall require six semesters <strong>of</strong> full-time study, extending overnot less than three academic years, and shall include examinations to be held at the end <strong>of</strong> eachsemester.A 4 <strong>The</strong> number and length <strong>of</strong> written examinations shall be as laid down in the syllabuses.Dissertations, field-work, class tests, oral, aural and practical tests may also be prescribed. Courseworkassessment shall be taken into account as prescribed in the syllabuses.Selection <strong>of</strong> coursesA 5 Candidates shall select their courses in accordance with these regulations and the guidelinesspecified in the syllabuses before the beginning <strong>of</strong> each semester. Changes to the selection <strong>of</strong> coursesmay be made only during the first two weeks <strong>of</strong> the semester in which the course begins, and suchchanges shall not be reflected in the transcript <strong>of</strong> the candidate. Requests for changes after the first twoweeks <strong>of</strong> the semester shall not normally be considered.A 6 Candidates in any semester shall select courses only after obtaining approval from the Heads <strong>of</strong>the Departments concerned, and the selection shall be subject to confirmation by the Board <strong>of</strong> theFaculty.Curriculum requirementsA 7To complete the curriculum, candidates shall(a)(b)satisfy the requirements prescribed in UG 3 <strong>of</strong> the Regulations <strong>of</strong> First DegreeCurricula, andtake not less than 180 credits, in the manner specified in these regulations and thesyllabuses.A 8 Candidates shall not normally take less than 24, nor more than 36, credits in each semester,unless otherwise permitted or required by the Board <strong>of</strong> the Faculty.A 9 To complete the first academic year <strong>of</strong> the curriculum, candidates shall follow instruction andsatisfy the examiners in:(a)four 3-credit courses: Academic English for <strong>Arts</strong> Students; Chinese LanguageEnhancement; Information Technology; and one 3-credit course in Science andTechnology studies for non-science students 2 ;2This regulation is applicable to candidates admitted to the first year <strong>of</strong> the curriculum in or after 2001-02.
