165FINE2015.Baroque art <strong>of</strong> Flanders, the Netherlands, and France (6 credits)(This course is also <strong>of</strong>fered to second and third year non-<strong>BA</strong> students for inter-Faculty broadeningpurposes.)This course will examine the art <strong>of</strong> the Baroque and Rococo periods in Northern Europe from about1600 to 1750. <strong>The</strong> main focus will be on 17th century art in Flanders, the Netherlands, and France, withparticular attention being paid to the varied subject matter, styles, and conditions <strong>of</strong> patronagecharacteristic <strong>of</strong> each country. <strong>The</strong> course will conclude with a discussion <strong>of</strong> Rococo painting inFrance.Assessment: 60% coursework, 40% examination.Prerequisite: FINE1001.FINE2020.American art (6 credits)(This course is also <strong>of</strong>fered to second and third year non-<strong>BA</strong> students for inter-Faculty broadeningpurposes.)This course surveys painting, sculpture, photography, and architecture in the United States fromEuropean settlement to 1945. <strong>The</strong> underlying theme will be the forging <strong>of</strong> a unified democratic nation inthe face <strong>of</strong> great internal diversity.
