71(i)(ii)any departments/programmes/centre listed in (b) above; and/orthe following departments/school/programme:• Buddhist Studies• Cognitive Science• Computer Science and Information Systems• Economics and Finance• Mathematics• Physics• Politics and Public Administration• Psychology• Social Work and Social Administration• Sociology• Statistics and Actuarial Scienceprovided that candidates shall not, within their normal study load <strong>of</strong> 60 credits in the first and secondsemesters, select more than 30 credits from any one department/programme/centre listed in (b) above,nor shall candidates select more than 6 credits from those <strong>of</strong>fered by the departments/school listed in(c)(ii) above.Candidates who are willing to take an additional study load shall be allowed to take up to 6 credits overand above the normal load <strong>of</strong> 30 credits in each <strong>of</strong> the first and second semesters.A 10 To complete the third to the sixth semesters <strong>of</strong> the curriculum, candidates shall normally followinstruction in a selection <strong>of</strong> courses which must include one major and which may include a secondmajor or up to two minors, with the combination <strong>of</strong> courses for each major and minor being asprescribed in the syllabuses, and shall satisfy the examiners in coursework and in any examinations for120 credits as selected in accordance with Regulation A11.A 11 Candidates shall select courses designated as Second Year or Level 200 courses in the third andfourth semesters <strong>of</strong> the curriculum and shall select courses designated as Third Year or Level 300courses in the fifth and sixth semesters, except that candidates who have failed to attain 60 First Year orLevel 100 credits by the end <strong>of</strong> their second semester <strong>of</strong> study or failed to attain 60 Second Year orLevel 200 credits by the end <strong>of</strong> their fourth semester <strong>of</strong> study shall be allowed to make up the missingcredits by including the outstanding credits in the two subsequent semesters <strong>of</strong> study, subject to theprovisions <strong>of</strong> Regulation A16. Courses designated as Second/Third Year or Level 200/300 may be takenin the third to the sixth semesters. Each semester shall normally consist <strong>of</strong> 30 credits and shall include:(a)Pr<strong>of</strong>essional English for <strong>Arts</strong> Students (3 credits) to be taken in either the third or thefourth semester; and 12 credits <strong>of</strong>fered outside the Faculty <strong>of</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> for the purpose <strong>of</strong>inter-Faculty broadening; andeither(b)other credits, <strong>of</strong> which at least 48 shall be in a major, together with any oralexamination required by the examiners, in any one <strong>of</strong> the followingdepartments/centre/programmes:• American Studies• Chinese• Comparative Literature• English• European Studies
