SEXUAL DEVIATIONurinary interest in girls can manifest itself as rivalry withthe urinary function in boys. There seems, however, noreal and frequent association of urinary erotism with suchrivalry which, also, is common enough in those completelydevoid of such erotism.I have been accustomed to apply the term Undinismto the frequent presence of an early interest in waterin general, and the urinary function in particular, persistingin later life. This interest, not amounting to adefinite deviation of the sexual impulse, or becoming asubstitute for it, is common, especially in women, amongwhom its presence may be accounted for by various circumstancesof their life, perhaps now becoming less prevalentby changed social conditions, but there always remainsa closer association between sexual emotion andurination in women than in men, in whom the seminaland urinary functions of expulsion are in general mutuallyexclusive.
