If,as Garnett believes, we must distinguish between sex asan instinct and sex as an appetite (he considers that Freudaroused whentends to confuse them) the instinct is onlythe opportunity of sexual satisfaction ispresented, and itmay be possible to avoid such opportunity. But sex asan appetite, receiving its impulses not from without butfrom within, still remains.
