Thus Dickinson records 175cases of dyspareunia, that is to say more or less pain anddiscomfort in the physical relationship of sex, and 120cases in which there was in that relationship some degreeof frigidity or sexual coldness, which in the act of unionmust practically amount to dyspareunia. In the case ofhusbands both these conditions have practically no existence(their counterpart being an impotency which is apurely negative condition) so that here ,again we have animportant disadvantage on the side of women.How far is this feminine disadvantage rooted in thenature of things, and how far in circumstances which wecan control?
