If, however,we are clearly in the presence of a deeply rooted and completecase of inversion even the attempt at a radical unsettlementof the organized habits, conceptions, and ideals,involving a violation of the individual's fundamental nature,should not be made without careful consideration.It must be remembered that, when we are dealing with areally fixed condition, all normal methods of treatmentbecome difficult.Hypnotic suggestion, which was formerlyfound useful in many cases of the most various kinds ofsexual anomalies, is of comparativelylittle service in welldeveloped congenital deviations. It cannot even easily beapplied, for the subject resists the suggestion, just as thenormal subject usually resists under hypnotism the suggestionto commit a crime.
