They can onlybe slightly touched on here, and it is scarcely necessaryto say that there is seldom any definite and positive formulato be applied. Each case has to be considered individually,and the most desirable solution of one may bethe most undesirable of another. It isprobable that inthe future all great centers of city life will possess Institutions(of which the Sexual Institute of Berlin may beregarded as the pioneer) at which advice may be obtainedconcerning all the various problems of marriage.The question of age may arise, the question of healthand heredity, the question of physical examination, thequestion of preparedness or of preparation for marriage,the question of delayed procreation, and the highly importantquestion of compatibility, physical or psychic, onwhich so often the happiness of marriage rests.As regards the desirable age of marriage for maritalhappiness, as well as for the production of the best childrenthere is considerable difference of opinion, and atpresent few adequately convincing data on a broad basis.[268]
