To give it greater flexibility, to bring to it afiner intelligence, and to accord a greater sympathyto itsvarying needs, so far from destroying it, is to imparta firmer stability.to itMarriage, we must never forget as too often happensis more than an erotic union. To the truly "ideal"marriage there goes not only an erotic harmony, but aunion of many-sided and ever deepening non-erotic affection,a community of tastes and feelings and interests, alife in common, a probability of shared parenthood, andoften an economic unity. The erotic element tends tobecome lessprominent as the marriage in other respectsbecomes a closer bond.
