Comparative analysis<br />

The first stage <strong>in</strong> the project was to carry out a comparative analysis. This is a cross<strong>in</strong>stitutional<br />

analysis focus<strong>in</strong>g on the identification <strong>of</strong> the most important s<strong>of</strong>t skills needed<br />

for successful transition from university education to the labour market, compil<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong><br />

compar<strong>in</strong>g studies, <strong>in</strong>itiatives <strong>and</strong> practices <strong>in</strong> each partner country on the follow<strong>in</strong>g topics:<br />

• s<strong>of</strong>t skills gap <strong>in</strong> students approach<strong>in</strong>g the labour market;<br />

• digital s<strong>of</strong>t skills (s<strong>of</strong>t skills 2.0) <strong>in</strong> students, <strong>new</strong> workers <strong>and</strong> young people <strong>in</strong> general.<br />

This document provides a clear overview <strong>of</strong> the state <strong>of</strong> art <strong>of</strong> each country <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>and</strong> set<br />

an important milestone for the partnership, <strong>in</strong> order to f<strong>in</strong>d a common po<strong>in</strong>t <strong>of</strong> view as a base<br />

to start the activities <strong>of</strong> the project. Furthermore, it <strong>in</strong>cludes a comprehensive review <strong>of</strong><br />

current literature on employability skills <strong>and</strong> surveys by government, non-pr<strong>of</strong>it, <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>in</strong>dustry-affiliated organisations from Europe <strong>and</strong> third countries, identify<strong>in</strong>g the range <strong>of</strong> s<strong>of</strong>t<br />

skills relevant for <strong>new</strong> graduates. We take <strong>in</strong>to account multiple perspectives <strong>of</strong> scholars,<br />

<strong>research</strong>ers, experts <strong>in</strong> human resources, employers <strong>and</strong> educators/teachers, <strong>in</strong> order to<br />

compare <strong>and</strong> contrast different views/perceptions on the subject, identify misconceptions <strong>and</strong><br />

rank priorities for s<strong>of</strong>t skills development.<br />

The report hopes to enhance underst<strong>and</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> which s<strong>of</strong>t skills are the most important for<br />

today’s <strong>new</strong> employees <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>dicate key areas for s<strong>of</strong>t skill development at University level.<br />

The document also highlights the <strong>in</strong>novative experiences carried out <strong>in</strong> the different countries<br />

to contribute to develop<strong>in</strong>g knowledge on European best practices.<br />

The report covers:<br />

• the adoption <strong>of</strong> studies focused on transversal skills <strong>and</strong> s<strong>of</strong>t skills 2.0 the project<br />

(literature exchange);<br />

• the def<strong>in</strong>ition <strong>of</strong> s<strong>of</strong>t skills <strong>and</strong> digital s<strong>of</strong>t skills (on the base <strong>of</strong> the choice done, a common<br />

eLene4work def<strong>in</strong>ition <strong>of</strong> s<strong>of</strong>t <strong>and</strong> digital skill will be given, us<strong>in</strong>g the same glossary <strong>and</strong><br />

st<strong>and</strong>ard <strong>of</strong> classification)<br />

• a comparative analysis on what happens <strong>in</strong> each countries (for example if the s<strong>of</strong>t skill gap<br />

<strong>in</strong> young people approach<strong>in</strong>g the labour market regards the same skills or if there are<br />

differences <strong>in</strong>fluenced by the different cultures);<br />

• the <strong>in</strong>itiatives carried out <strong>in</strong> the country partners to ‘fill this gap’ (best practices <strong>research</strong>);<br />

• the supportive services that have been developed <strong>and</strong> how are these local <strong>in</strong>itiatives are<br />

recognised by the labour market <strong>in</strong> terms <strong>of</strong> quality.<br />
